Oxford Women’s Circle
Gathering in circle to speak and to listen is an ancient tradition, one that we don’t often practice in our modern lives. It is a very simple practice and a very powerful one. It is as much about deep listening as it is voicing what needs to be said. It is a place that is open to imperfection and vulnerability, to have your whole self be welcomed and held.
The circle will be held for 1.5 hours. We will start with a short meditation, to set the tone for the space we create together. There will then be a reminder of the guidelines which help us to hold that space respectfully. We start with a short share, responding to a question, running around the circle in turn, to help familiarise ourselves with speaking in the circle. And then the space is open for what needs to be given voice. We will finish with another short share and a closing of the circle.
To maintain the integrity of the circle we use guidelines that help us to be gentle with everyone’s vulnerability:
- the circle is confidential, nothing that is shared in the circle leaves the circle;
- we speak from our experience, from our personal story;
- we don’t offer advice, or respond to what others have shared;
- silence is as welcome as sharing.

The circle will be held in the cabin at Barracks Lane Community Garden. The cabin and the facilities there are fully accessible for those with mobility needs. Generally we will be seated on the floor, but if this is not possible for you chairs will be available.
On street parking is available near the venue.
